Project: Akron Community Foundation About: The Akron Community Foundation was created in 2001 to benefit the Akron Community. ACF is a vehicle in our community that can accept charitable gifts of all types, such as cash, estate gifts or even gifts of land. ACF offers yearly grants to all local nonprofits and units of local government that serve the Akron community by making application. In addition, currently offer scholarships to graduating AWCS seniors and they may apply by completing an application online. Project: Akron Bicycle and Walking Trails About: Fundraising has begun to create a new bike trail in Akron. Contact: Donations can be made by contacting Dan Rolfes or stopping by Akron City Hall.
Project: Akron-Westfield Educational Excellence Foundation About: Since 2002, the AEEF has provided $23,000 in scholarships to A-W students. The goal of this organization is to increase the amount provided to A-W students and provide opportunities for staff and students. Contact: Contact Lisa Harris for details.
Project: Akron Park Board About: The Park Board strives to keep our ball fields, parks and other community areas up to date and an accessible part of our community. Contact: Donations can be made by contacting Dan Rolfes or stopping by Akron City Hall.
Project: Akron Opera House About: The historic Akron Opera House is currently fundraising for two projects: upgrading the sound system, speakers and microphones ($3,350 remaining) and renovating the facade of the building including replacing cracked windows, sealing and filling around windows, painting and other upgrades ($50,000 remaining). Project: Akron-Westfield PTA - Elementary Playground Equipment About: Akron-Westfield is looking to upgrade playground equipment to meet ADA compliance and give our kiddos wheelchair friendly access to the playground! The PTA is currently selling ice cream scoops & RADA cutlery. Contact: Visit the Akron-Westfield PTA Facebook page for details.
Project: Akron Children's Center About: Our local daycare has two ongoing fundraiser opportunities: Friends of the Center financial campaign and Helping Hands thrift store. Contact: Financial donations can be made to the Friends of the Center campaign at Security National Bank or mailed to Akron Childrens Center at P.O. Box 762, Akron IA 51001. Thrift store donations can be delivered to Helping Hands, 328 N. 5th, on Tuesday mornings 9-12; Wednesday nights 5:30-7:30 or Saturdays from 10-2. Donations can be dropped off during times when the store is open or dropped off at the donation shed in the back.
Project: Birdie and Carol Harris School of Performing Arts About: BCHSPA was founded by Amy and Kevin Linder in 2015 for intergenerational arts education and performance. The school is focused on providing instruction and performance opportunities ranging from chamber music to musical theater. It is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of the arts in the Akron and surrounding area. Renovation of main floor and kitchen is estimated $50,000. Currently in the design phase. Project: Akron Care Center Assisted Living About: The Akron Care Center Assisted Living sprung out of the desire to care for individuals within our community. The assisted living will offer tenants the opportunity to converse with one another during meals, life enrichment activities, and therapeutic exercise. The assisted living will have its own entrance and be attached to the care center through a hallway. Construction will start in 2023.
